Saturday Morning Fun

Chris is celebrating his 32nd birthday tomorrow. And to help him celebrate his mom got him a pass to go paragliding. So that's where we spent our morning. In the feild below watching Chris glide down the mountain side. It was pretty fun to watch and Chris had a blast. His brother Mike went also. So we had a little picnic (donuts and chocolate milk) in the park while we watched them come down.

Days #6 and #8

Well it's not much to look at yet but maybe there is someone out there who will be interested in seeing our progress. Saturday we (meaning my dad and Dan of course) finished up the footings and got everything for inspection.
Above and below are both from Day #6
Monday morning we had our inspection and were given to OK to continue. We called for concrete and it came a few hours later.
In order to get down to the basement the concrete is poured into this pump truck and it then comes out the black hose at the bottom.
There's my dad directing the concrete so it went where we wanted it. Dan on the sidelines getting ready to start smoothing it out.
 More smoothing.
My dad keeps giving me a hard time about being a ranchers wife who just sits around drinking lemonade all day. I like to call is supervising.

Construction Day #1

So I thought we'd be out of internet service for a while because we had to remove our satelite to start construction but it turns out my dad couldn't be without it so we got hooked up with Verizon's wireless internet and we are back in business! And I am so excited because the service is way faster than our old provider. Yipee!

We broke ground and started excavating yesterday morning bright and early and Chris has been at it for two days straight. We have a nice big 9 foot hole in the ground and the yard is a wreck! But I am so happy we are finally doing this. Here are a few pictures from the first dig at the dirt:

And here's what it looked like a few hours later.
This is the west side of the house. We now have a whole even wider and bigger than this on the south side of the house as well. More pictures to come as the project comes along.

Here's what Ava was up to while the digging was in progress. She's turned into quite the little monkey since taking gymnastics.

Top 5

Top 5 reasons we are doing an addition/remodel on our house:

5. The drawers in the kitchen will no longer suddenly fall to the ground when you accidentally pull it out too far.

4. Forced air heating! (right now we just have a stove and it gets a little bit cold!)

3. Master bedroom! Wahoo!!!!!

2. My dad, the master carpenter, is going to come all the way out here to do the work so we'll get to see him all the time for the next couple of months!! (This is almost good enough to be #1.....almost!)

And the # 1 reason is..........

1. To make room for the newest addition to our family! Baby Shideler coming March 2012.

Construction to begin mid August.
