Graining The "Calvies"

A couple months before we are ready to sell our steers we start feeding them grain to help fatten them up. (Sorry to anyone who was under the impression that we are grass fed only). Chris takes the girls with them (almost) every afternoon to help grain the "calvies" - as we like to call them. They love it. I tagged along yesterday to snap a few pictures.

Sadie wanted to wear her cowgirl hat and I lost count of how many times she said "yee-haw" during the 45 minutes we were out. It was a LOT.
Ava fell down in the back of the truck and got a little snow and dirt on her so she was a little upset. She opted to stay in the truck instead of help grain.
The steers love their grain. It's one of the few times they will let you get close.

Ava and Sadie have their own special cups they use to help with the grain.
Ava still waiting at the truck.

Dad got some extra grain so we could take a treat to the horses.

These girls are in the field right next to the horses and they were a little jealous that they weren't getting any grain.
Sadie petting one of our "grandpa" horses.
After we were done graining we stopped by to see one of cows who's a little gimpy. Sadie helped daddy give her some more hay.

All in a days work.
